How Long Should Your First Dance Song Be?

This is an FAQ we LOVE when couples ask…

because it means we can help you avoid the common mistake of having your dance go on WAY TOO LONG.

So how long should your First Dance song be?

3 MINUTES (3.5 min max!)

Here's why this is the perfect length:

You want to keep your guests engaged and entertained the entire time (after the 3.5 min mark it can quickly turn into a snoozefest)3.5 min is actually a lot of choreography to learn ... so if it goes on longer than that you may end up feeling overwhelmed trying to remember the steps

What if your First Dance song goes past the 3 minute mark?

Easy peasy!

You can either:

  • Have your DJ fade your song at a pre planned time in the music and/or when you do your final move (like a dip)

  • Have your music professionally edited by our music guru who can edit your song/songs to be the perfect length and mix you desire

PRO TIP: Be sure to have your music picked out by your first lesson so your instructor can dive right in with the exact steps/vibe that matches your vision and song style.

PS: Here's what groom-to-be Dave had to say about his lesson experience...

"Our instructor surpassed our wildest expectations and was able to teach even my clumsy self with only a couple hours of instruction. She was able to put together a graceful and flexible dance that made us look like the best dancers in our friend group, and nothing looked scripted. If we could give her and the team at Wedding Dance Coach 6 stars we would - truly the best in the business, with a natural gift for teaching and unerringly professional and responsive. Thank you so much for making our wedding dance such a wild success!"
