Do We *Really* Need 4 Months to Rock Our First Dance?

Do We *Really* Need 4 Months to Rock Our First Dance?

With all the *other* wedding details taking up space in your head, you may wonder if it’s really necessary to start learning and practicing your First Dance so far out from your big day.

After all, it’s just a few dance moves, right? You can learn them super quick and none of your guests will be the wiser—said many couples who left their First Dance ‘till the last minute.

And while yes, it’s possible for us to work a few dance-miracles for last-minute couples, we want you to have the ultimate party vibe, memories, and photos and videos to prove it. Pulling off a dazzling First Dance takes time–especially if this is your first public dance experience.

(For many of our satisfied couples, it is.)

When you allow 4-ish months of learning and practice time for your First Dance, you can be certain that you’ll exude confidence, enjoyment, readiness, and sizzle for all of your guests to see. It’s a total “we GOT this feeling” when you gift yourself the element of TIME for your dance.

Here’s a breakdown of how we utilize all those weeks when our couples have them available.

(And yes, it’s still possible to integrate several simple and elegant moves in a crash course or two—so no judgement if you ARE running on last-minute fumes as you dip and spin into your wedding day. WDC has your back and your two left feet. )

Month 1: You’ll meet your instructor (s), who will help you dial in your dance vision, select a song, and start rehearsing. Each week you’ll get a few new moves to learn and practice—with videos to help you remember all the sequences.

Month 2: The learning and practice continue—and it’s ANYTHING but boring. Our couples report that their dance experience is often the most enjoyable time they spend out of the whole wedding planning ordeal. It’s stress free, playful time you get to spend with your honey as you build your knowledge and skill. (AND, those skills stay with you for many a date night after the reception!)

Months 3 and 4: If you’ve purchased a 10 lesson package, this is where we’ll dive deeper into more elaborate movements and dance combinations like mashups that pair several dance styles, or jaw-dropping moves like lifts and dips that require a trusting dance foundation with your Sweetie.

We’ll also bring in a parent, selected relative, or other wedding party members for any “signature” dances you want to add to your event. It’s crucial to get everyone on the same page and equipped with the tools and material to practice on their own for a flawless performance.

Seriously, we can do it all with enough time over here at WDC. (And yes, dance miracles also happen in just a few lessons when you’re in a pinch.)
